Abstract

The debris flow movement is as complex as water flows. The kinetic characteristics of water flow can be analysed by Reynolds number (Re) through the simple experiment. For debris flow, especially viscous debris flow, there have not been such experiments in the world by now, only the portraits of the movement phenomena of debris flow can be described in natural channels. Now, because of the complexity and distransparentness, experiments can not approach the entirely theoretical research. In Jiangjia ravine, we observed the kinetic characteristics of debris flow, measuring the velocity, depth, cross section, gradient as well as the samples of debris flow, etc.. The radar velocimeter and ultrasonic level meter were used. According to those measured parameters, we determined the kinetic charaderistics of viscous debris flow. This paper will focus on the kinetic characteristics under natural channel conditions and suggests the methods for determination of the property and movement factors of debris flow.
