Abstract | Ergumu Ravine is about 6km in the south of Canluo County, Sichuan Province. It is a small tributary with water flow all the year round of Ganluo River. The drainage area of it is 2.5 km^2, and the elevation from the lowest point to the highest in the basin is 758m. The gully is about 2.8km long with 236 ‰ of longitudinal gradient. The upper part of the basin covers by different vegetation, but in the lower part and on the both slopes of the gully-almost farm lands. At midnigh of May 20, 1983, the debris flow in rather large scale triggered by stimutation of heavy rainfall occured from the gully. It was 60.mm rainfall in the duration of 25 minutes. The density of the debris flow is 1.7-1.8T/m3 and the largest diameter of stone carried out by the debris flow is 4.1m. Its peak discharge reached to 120-150 m3/sec. The gully was cut down by debris flow to 1.5-3.0m deep. At the mouth of the Ravine there is a lot of depesits with big stone and boulders. Mang of which are in the state of standing, because of crushing in the head of debirs flow surge in bursting. Investigating and analyzing the formation conditions, the activity process and the development tendency of debris flow in Ergumu Ravine, the anthors pointed out that this Ravine, as a dormant debris flow had been stopping its activities for 100 years or so. In recent years, so more plantations were deforested that the eclogoical balance was seriously detroyed so that the debris flow has been revived under the stimulation of heavey rain, and caused a big damage. To stop the occurrence and devlopment of this kind of debris flow, it is most important to remain and restore the ecological balance in the watershed. |
