AbstractThis paper makes an approach to some application of remote sensing to debris flow studies. In this respect of resarch on the regional characteristics of debris flow distribution. In the relationship between the traces of tetonic movement interpreted in the light of landsat images and the main regions of debris flow distribution in China is dealt with. As regards the cartography of debris flow distribution regions, the debris flow distribution map and the degraphic division map of Daying River basin in Yunnan have been drawn according to airphoto images. On the part of monitoring debris flow activities, the application of airphoto images obtained on various carriers to the monitoring of different cycles is expunded, and several examples of analysing debris flow activities by use of this method are given.
