AbstractWorldwide, China is home to the fourth largest combined area of natural wetlands, including lakes, rivers, marshland, offshore wetlands, and coastal wetlands (Niu et al., 2012). A recent study (Xiao, Deng, Dong‐Gill, Huang, & Tian, 2019), named X2019 hereafter, provided a synthesis of its carbon budget. Indeed, most of the estimations in the study have advanced our knowledge, for example, suggesting China's fresh waters are a significant CH4 emitter (Li et al., 2018)
