Other AbstractThe debris flow distribution in Hengduan Mountainous Region displays stripe bands, spots and speckles in the north-south or near north-south direction, the total shows a sack whose mouth is pacing northwest, the debris flow on its walls is more, the mouth and middle are rare. Types of debris flows are complete. The middle and small scale are the most. Serious felling forest, forest fire and unreasonable economy activities of human result increasingly in the debris flow activities. The rain-debris-flow are more and characterized by occurring generally and seriously endangering. In natural history, there had been old debris flows more than the recent debris flows. In West Sichuan, the debris flow quantity is the most, and it is 1525 gullies. Its types are complete, harm is greater. In addition, there are over 265 gullies in Northwest Yunnan, there are about 251 gullies in East Xizang, they have been harms of various degrees.The territory of Hengduan Mountainous Region is vast, natural conditions are very complex. The deep and great fault belf and fault in the region is more, strong earthquakes often break out, neotectonics upheaval is intense, different up-down motion in local region is ob-vious; altitude above sea level is high, relative fall is great, mountain slope is precipitous, rivers and gullies are deeply cut, the protective screen role in the east and the west mountain of China is evident; average precipitation for years is from 400 to 1200mm., rain days have 120 to 180, thunderstorm and rainstorm in local region are more, its rainstorm in the east and ".vest border is greater; forest fell is serious, forest fire frequent; the unreasonable human economy activity is more evident, they have obvious damages role for ecological environment. All these are very favourable to debris flow formation.It is very urgent for control of debris flows in Hengduan Mountainous Region.The railway and highway departments have been plentiful experiences struggling with debris flow. To take preventive measures is more important than to control ones in farming, forestry and stock raising area. People would protect and improve ecological balance in mountain region. At present, it is very protruding for controlling debris flous in cities and towns. There are about 28 cities and towns in the region and they are endangered or threatened by debris flows, people should investigate, plan and control for them in order of importance and urgency. Up to now, debris flows of 5 county towns in West Sichuan have been better controlled
