Other Abstract

Gongga Mountain, 7556 m above sea level. is an extremly high mountain in eastern edge of Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau. There are both developing monsoon maritime glaciers extensively and having keeped biocenosis gathered the lonely species. The apline ecosystem of Mt. Gongga as a unity of environment-organisms is a developmental balance system under the conditions piles up subtropics. temperate zone. frigid zone and cryosphere as well. whichmade up of forest exosystem in some levels with its habitals, lithosphere and atmosphere organically. The ecosystem are characterized by a complexa flora which is interwoven by Himalaya flora. China-Jiapanese flora. panarctic-temperate
zone flora and subtropics flors. A nd an abundant species can be found here including 1880 species of wild plants and 350 species of wild vertibrates. and an intergrated vertical zonation made up of the subropical semiarid valley belt with sparse woods and bushes between 1l00m and 1500m a. s.l.  subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest belt between 1500m and 2300m. subtropical evergreen broadleaf and deciduous broadleaf mixed forest belt between 2300 m and 2500m. warm temperate deciduous broadleaf and coniferous mixed forest belt between 2500m and 2900m. frigid temperate coniferous forest belt between 2900m and 3800m. subfrigid shrubery and alpine meadow belt between 3800m and , 1600m. frigid alpine open grass desert belt between 1600m and 1900m and permament snow belt over 1900m. Research shows that the ecosystem has undergone a evolutionary process from peneplain forest-grassland-ecosystem through mountain broadleaf forest ecosystem, mountain coniferous forest-grassland ecosystem. mountain sparse woods and grassbushes ecosystem. subalpine forest ecosystem to recent alpine ecosfstem accompaning the processes of uplift of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and climatic change of four glacial-interglacial stages during Pleistocene. It is not only a ideal section for studing the uplift 0 Qinghai-Xizang Plaleau and even the global change thereby having long-term value of basic research but also a resourceful system among which the landscapes of glaciers and thermomineral springs should have a  greateconomic value. Therefore. it is very important at present or in future to protect the ecosystem and to use on the premise of protection and in turnfor advancing the protection. These. Mt. Gongga Alpine Ecosystem observatioh and Experiment Station and National Hailuogou .Glacier Park in working and thermominerál springtourist centre in planning and to apply Jor being the list of naturalheritage of the U nited N ations .are major tactics for protecting and using the ecosystem. The tactics are sugg t'sted. basing on which Mt. Gongga alpine ecosystem is a typical case on the effects of environment-resources of uplift of Qinghai-Xizan Plateau. and the dataof Quaternary research. as well as the condition of bach ward economy and outstanding contradictory between
the development and pretection. By the way .it is very important to save original forest that i8 broken to be lesserday by day because of the economic development. Tt is necessary to put a forWard scientific plan for using resources effectively and ecological protection by means of the studies in Mt. Gongga Station. As for this. the Mt. Gongga Station would be asa advancing mark for Quaternary basic research and applied research.
Various kinds of Quaternary sediments developed in defferent landforms and their research have been paid attention to by scientists and government of China. The Quaternary research have been become as one of most active domains in geoscience. Speciallya lots of work to be done on the Applied Quaternary while somesignificant achievements obtained from the observations for loess. páleoan thropology. palaeoclimatology. glaciology , stratigraphyand neotectonics as well as studies in Qinghai-Xizang Plateau which supply the scientific informations for developing the industry. agriculture and soon. Base on Ⅵ National Congress for Quaternary Research of China (hold in Guang Zhou , 1993) , the Commission for Applied Quaternary Research of the Chinese Committee for Quaternary Research has established which shows a new stage about Quaternary research of China and it would play a important role whether to promote internional acdimic exchanges or to solve some Quaternary quetions appearing in mational econmy. As for this, it is a practice of applied Quaternary research in Gongga Mountain of China.
