Other AbstractDebris flows belong to sudden disasters which are difficult to forecast. Consequently, a detailed and reasonable hazard assessment seems a necessary step to prevent or relieve such disasters and mitigate the risk effectively. In this paper, a method, combing back propagation neural network and geomorphic information entropy for debris flow hazard assessment, was proposed and employed to assess debris flow hazard of 41 sub-basins of Shenxi gully located in Sichuan province, China. The results indicate that the method is efficient and convenient for debris flows hazard assessment.
