Research Contents

I am interested in mountain glacier dynamics, the hydrology of glacierized systems and the relationship between these systems and their responds to climate change. My major present research (funded by NSFC 2019-2022) aims to conduct detailed glacier wide metrological and surface ablation monitoring and modeling on two typical larger debris-covered glaciers in Mt. Gongga. By integrating with multiple processes existing on temperate glaciers, including difference ice ablation process related to debris-cover, ice cliff, ice crevasses and typical glacial drainage systems (channel, stream, pond/lake, liquid precipitation et al.), the research project is expected to discriminate several major control factors that affect ice ablation on larger temperate glaciers.

Biography

Research Interest: I am interested in mountain glacier dynamics, the hydrology of glacierized systems and the relationship between these systems and their responds to climate change. In particular, my research is devoted to exploring the nature of glacier runoff yield, flow and concentration and their impacts on related glaciological processes. Most of my works are focusing on a monsoonal temperate glacier: the Hailuogou Glacier (east slope of Mt. Gongga, 7556 m asl, the center of Hengduan Mountains, 29.6N101.9E, southeast of Tibet). We are conducting a long-term monitoring, including geophysical, meteorological and hydrological measurements, to evaluate glacial geometry, mass balance, flow regime and hydrological process. My works and my interest on mountain glaciers have driven me visiting many beautiful glaciers and mountains. Since 2005, my field expedition regions include Hengduan Mountains, Central Himalayan, Karakoram and Tianshan Mountains. I also visited the Vernagtferner in the Ötztal Alps in 2012, during a three month stay in Munich, Germany.
